What is power?

power by definition is the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. every person has “power” but it depends on how you actually see things as a form of power. power could be given or you attain power. it is an abstract form of concept but every people should study and use it to their advantage.

Social media presence could be translated as power, you give information to your followers. you are incredibly rich, you could buy things with money which also translates into “purchasing power”. working in your 9–5 office well in an organization or even corporation power could be attained through the merits and skills you have, how valuable you are in that place.

Knowledge is also power maybe you’ve heard of the famous phrase “Scientia potentia est” to know more than the common man and use that information to your advantage is always valuable. Power is everything you could use to your advantage to turn the tide into yours but to actually classify your “power” is not an easy task. you have to find it on your own

Power as our basic needs

Why do we need power? why do we seek it? why are we attracted to power? because it is our basic needs, we need ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. power and acknowledgment is intertwined

as maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, it was written that as a form of self-actualization the needs of Esteem is a part of it, maslow classified int two categories: 1. esteem for oneself (dignity, achievement, mastery, independence) and 2. the desire for reputation or respect from others.

It is in our nature that as humans we have this driving force to dominate things in our environment, as we look back of our journey as human beings we dominate others through physical power, but with the advancement of knowledge and social structure, dominating others become more abstract as humans need to identify their sense of “power”.

Power may consume us all, power may corrupt people. but it is a form of our acknowledgment, a form of our basic needs. to identify your power as also a means of self-actualization. it is an innate feature of our mankind but not a lot of people aware of it, Identify and use your power wisely.
